The best social media management tool is the cheapest one that covers your networks and the one job that takes your time. To schedule a few channels without paying, Buffer or Metricool. For many profiles at a low flat price, Later or SocialBee. For open source, Postiz. For a team that answers comments, approves posts and reports to clients, Hootsuite, Sprout Social or Vista Social. And if writing the posts is the slow part, Skryvo, which we make.
The short version: most tools on this list schedule posts equally well, so price model and the extra job decide it. Per-channel pricing (Buffer) is cheapest for one to three accounts. Flat plans (Later, SocialBee, Metricool) win from about five. Per-seat suites (Hootsuite, Sprout Social) are for teams that need an inbox and listening. Every price below is from the tool's own pricing page, read on October 27, 2026, in US dollars before tax.

What does a social media management tool do?
Five jobs, and no tool weights them the same way: publishing (a calendar and a queue that posts on time), engagement (one inbox for comments and messages), analytics (what worked, in reports you can send), listening (mentions of your brand and keywords elsewhere) and creation (writing and designing the posts). Cheap tools do publishing well and the rest lightly. Suites do all five and charge per person. Decide which one or two jobs you actually pay for before you compare features.
1. Buffer: the best free scheduler for a few channels
Buffer's free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel, plus a comment inbox and its AI assistant. Essentials is $5 a month per channel ($60 a year) with unlimited scheduled posts, and Team is $10 per channel with unlimited users, both with a 14-day trial. It is the simplest tool here and the cheapest for one to three accounts; per-channel pricing adds up past that. Our Skryvo and Buffer comparison and Buffer vs Hootsuite go deeper.
2. Metricool: scheduling and analytics in one free account
Metricool's free plan manages 1 brand with 20 posts a month, 5 competitor profiles and 30 days of analytics, though its pricing page says LinkedIn and X are not available on the free brand. Starter is $20 a month billed yearly ($25 monthly) for 5 brands with unlimited posts under fair use, and Advanced starts at $53 a month yearly for 15 brands with approvals and team roles. Choose it if reports matter as much as the calendar.
3. Later: many profiles for a low flat price
Later prices by social set, one profile per network: Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly for 1 set (8 profiles) and 1 user, Growth is $37.50 for 2 sets and 2 users, Scale is $82.50 for 6 sets and 4 users. Each plan has a 14-day trial and a small allowance of AI credits. Its visual planner suits brands built around images.
4. SocialBee: categories and evergreen recycling
SocialBee groups posts into categories and can repost evergreen ones on a rotation. Bootstrap is $29 a month ($290 a year) for 5 profiles and 1 user, Accelerate $49 for 10 profiles, and Pro $99 for 25 profiles, 3 users per workspace and 5 workspaces, each with a 14-day trial.
5. Postiz: open source, built for AI agents
Postiz's hosted plans run from Standard at $29 a month to Ultimate at $99 ($23 to $79 billed yearly), for 5 to 100 channels, after a 7-day trial. Every plan includes its MCP server, CLI, API and webhooks, so agents such as Claude can schedule through it, and its code is open source under AGPL-3.0 if you would rather host it yourself. Your agent writes the posts; Postiz schedules them. See Skryvo vs Postiz.
6. Skryvo: when writing the posts is the bottleneck
We make Skryvo, so read this section with that in mind. It learns your brand's voice from your site and writing, then drafts a version of each post for each network, inside that network's limits, and publishes it on schedule from the app or from an AI agent such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor. Nothing is scheduled without your go-ahead. The free plan writes posts (5 generations a month, 1 brand voice); Hobby is $15 a month ($149 a year) with 150 generations, 2 brand voices and 20 posts queued at once; Pro is $49 with 500 generations, 5 brand voices and 100 queued.
The trade-off is the channel list. Skryvo publishes today to LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Pinterest, TikTok, Telegram, Discord, Slack, WordPress, WordPress.com and Dev.to; Instagram, Facebook, Threads, YouTube and Google Business Profile are built and waiting for each platform's review. It has no comment inbox or listening. If Instagram is your main channel or a team answers comments all day, pick another tool on this list.
7. Vista Social: an agency suite for less
Vista Social's Professional plan is $99 a month ($950 a year) for 15 profiles and 2 users, Advanced $199 for 30 profiles, and Scale $449 for 70 profiles, all with a 14-day trial and no card. It covers inbox, reviews and reports at a lower price than Hootsuite or Sprout. Its page lists different user counts in the table and the FAQ, so confirm before you buy.
8. Hootsuite: the large-team standard
Hootsuite charges per user: Standard is $99 a month billed yearly with 10 social accounts, Professional $199 with unlimited accounts, inbox automation and competitor benchmarks, and Advanced up to $399 with approval workflows and inbox routing, plus custom Enterprise. Every plan includes its unified inbox, listening and AI assistant, with a 14-day trial and no card. See Hootsuite alternatives if the per-user price is the problem.
9. Sprout Social: deep reporting, priced per seat
Sprout Social's Essentials is $79 a seat a month billed yearly ($99 monthly) with 5 profiles; Standard is $199 a seat with the consolidated inbox, monitoring and reviews, Professional $299 and Advanced $399, with a 30-day trial. Per-seat pricing makes it the most expensive tool here for a team, and the most complete. Our Sprout Social comparison has the detail.
What is the best free social media management tool?
Buffer for LinkedIn and X, because its free plan schedules 10 posts on each of 3 channels and Metricool's free plan leaves those two networks out. Metricool's free plan suits Instagram, Facebook or TikTok with analytics. Each network's own scheduler is free too: our guides cover LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.
What is the best tool for scheduling social media posts?
For scheduling alone, the cheapest tool that covers your networks: Buffer up to three channels, then Later or Metricool. If a tool should also write the posts, Skryvo. If your AI agent writes them and you want it to post directly, Buffer, Postiz and Skryvo all connect to Claude and ChatGPT over MCP; our guide to scheduling LinkedIn posts from Claude shows how that works.
Which social media automation tools work with AI agents?
Tools with an MCP server let Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other agents schedule posts for you. On this list, Buffer runs an official MCP server at mcp.buffer.com that schedules to its queue; Hootsuite lists MCP connectors for ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot and Gemini, with publishing through its Perch product; Postiz includes one on every plan; Metricool's free plan lists one; and Skryvo's hosted server writes each post in your brand's voice before it schedules. The difference is who writes: with most of these tools your agent writes the post, with Skryvo your agent asks Skryvo to write it. See Skryvo for AI agents for the setup in each one.
How to choose
- Count channels and people. Per-channel and per-seat prices climb fast; flat plans do not.
- List the networks you must have. Check the exact ones, especially LinkedIn Pages, Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads and Pinterest.
- Name the job you pay for. Scheduling, an inbox, reports or writing. Pay for that job and nothing else.
- Run the trial on a real week. Schedule a week of real posts before you pay for a year.
Plan the month in our free social media calendar template and post at the best time for each network.
Let your agent write the next one in your voice
Skryvo drafts each post in your saved voice and publishes it after your go-ahead. Free to start.
