A Facebook profile is for a person; a Facebook Page is for a business, brand, organization or public figure. Meta's own comparison says profiles are "best for personal use, not for businesses or organizations", while Pages are public, can advertise, and come with Insights and an inbox for customers. If you run a business, you need a Page, and you need a personal profile to create it.
The short version: keep your profile for friends and family, and create a free Page for the business. Only a Page can run ads, show Page Insights, and be posted to by scheduling tools. These facts are from Meta's Business Help Center comparison of Pages, profiles and groups, read on October 27, 2026.

What is the difference between a Facebook Page and a profile?
A profile represents you. Meta describes it as "intended for personal use and to help you connect with friends, family and your community". A Page represents something else: Meta calls Pages "a free product to build and grow your social media presence", used to reach new audiences, talk with customers and advertise. Your account is the login that holds both: you sign in as yourself and manage your Pages from your profile.
Do I need a profile to create a Facebook Page?
Yes. Meta's note is direct: "A personal profile is required to create a Page or group." Your profile is the admin behind the Page, but visitors to the Page see the business, not your personal profile.
Can I use my personal profile for business?
Meta recommends against it, and you lose most of what a business needs. A profile cannot advertise, has no Insights, and caps friends at 5,000; Facebook's help suggests turning on professional mode to be followed by more people than that. Professional mode adds professional tools and audience insights to a profile, but it is still a person's profile, not a business presence.
Can I schedule posts to a Facebook profile?
Not through scheduling tools. They publish through Meta's API to Pages; Buffer's help center, for example, says it cannot connect personal profiles, including those in professional mode, because of API restrictions. On a Page, Meta Business Suite schedules posts at no cost, and so do tools such as Buffer. Our guide to scheduling Facebook posts has the steps.
Page or group for a business?
Both, for different jobs. A Page is your public storefront: anyone can find it, and it can advertise. A group is a discussion space for "approved members", in Meta's words, such as customers or local fans; you can join or create a group as your Page. Start with the Page, and add a group when you have people who want to talk to each other, not only to you.
How do I create a Facebook Page?
From your personal profile, create a new Page, give it the business name and category, add a profile picture and cover, and fill in contact details. Meta's Create and manage a Facebook Page help has the current steps for desktop and mobile. Post a few times before you advertise, so new visitors find something on it.
