Why Instagram removes line breaks

Instagram merges empty lines that sit next to each other, so a gap of two or three lines shrinks to one. We posted a test caption on our own Instagram account on November 6, 2026: two and three empty lines in a row each came out as a single blank line, while lines holding only the invisible character U+2800 all stayed, stacked as written.

How to add line breaks in an Instagram caption

U+2800, the blank Braille pattern. It shows as empty space, so a line holding only it looks blank, but Instagram counts it as text and keeps the line.
